In Andhra Pradesh, eight Tribal groups viz. Chenchu, Khond, Savara, Kondareddy, Thoti, Gadaba, Porja and Kolam are identified as Primitive Tribal Groups (PTGs) basing on certain criteria evolved by Government of India like pre-agricultural level technology, low literacy and hunting and gathering economy. One of the activities undertaken by Integrated Tribal Development Agency is to provide welfare and enjoyment rights over the use of cultivable land to the enjoyers. Lack of proper records of land usage lead to encroachment and irregularity. In some villages, the definition of landlessness is understood in terms of the lack of ownership of 'wet land', and ‘podu’ land is not reckoned as cultivable land. |
